Gulf Shores houses with a pool, sorted by group size

Yes, and the first thing worth sorting out is whose pool it is. Across our Gulf Shores homes an outdoor pool usually means one of three arrangements: a private pool in the yard that only your group uses, a community pool shared by the handful of houses in a gated cottage neighbourhood, or a resort pool deck at a beachfront tower with a lazy river running through it. All three show up as "outdoor pool" on a listing. They produce completely different vacations.
So the useful question isn't which homes have a pool. It's which kind of pool your group should be swimming in, and that comes down almost entirely to how many of you there are and how much you intend to leave the house.
A pool nobody else is using
If the point of the trip is that the kids can be in the water at seven in the morning in whatever they slept in, you want a private pool, and the biggest one we run in Gulf Shores belongs to Sea Glass, an eight-bedroom beachfront house in West Beach that sleeps twenty-two. The pool deck sits between the house and a private boardwalk down to the sand, with sun loungers and unobstructed views of the Gulf. The pool has a gas heater that can be run on request for a daily fee, arranged with us before you arrive; it's set to a warm 88 degrees when it's on, which is comfortable swimming and nothing like hot tub temperature.
Sea Glass is also the house that solves the problem large groups actually have, which is not bedrooms but breakfast. Eight ensuite bedrooms and a double kitchen with two stoves, two ovens, two microwaves and two dishwashers means twenty-two people can get fed without a queue, and there's an elevator for luggage and for anyone who shouldn't be doing three flights. It sits a few hundred yards east of Lagoon Pass, which fishes well as the tide moves through, and it's a short drive to The Hangout.
Two other private-pool options are worth knowing if twenty-two is more house than you need. Believe Inn is a six-bedroom lagoon-front home sleeping eighteen, with a heated private pool, loungers, a TV at the pool and a private boat dock; if someone in the party is bringing a boat or wants to fish off the back of the house, that dock decides the trip. And in the gated Beach Club community, Latitude Adjustment and its neighbour Salty Breeze each have a private pool and outdoor dining with a built-in grill, plus access to the community's pools, hot tubs, fitness centre and on-site dining. Salty Breeze adds a firetable, which is the thing that keeps people outside in October.
The cottage-community pool, which is better than it sounds
Shared pools have a reputation they mostly don't deserve here, because the communities are small. Sweet Caroline's sits in Little Lagoon Cottages, a boutique neighbourhood of eighteen homes in West Beach, and the pool is lagoon-front with lounge seating, open year-round from eight in the morning to ten at night. It isn't heated, but it typically stays warm enough to swim through October and into November, which is the detail that matters if you're coming in shoulder season.
The cottage itself is an odd and useful shape: two bedrooms, three bathrooms, and it sleeps ten, because there are built-in twin-over-twin bunks in the living area and more on the upstairs landing. Both bedrooms are ensuite with balcony access. That works beautifully for one family with several kids and badly for three couples, so count your adults before you book it. It's front row in the community, fifty steps from private beach access, with three balconies looking at both the Gulf and the lagoon, and the community has a fishing pier and boat dock.
For a bigger group on the same model, SeaHaven sits in gated Laguna Key with a resort-style community pool, pickleball, a basketball hoop and a private fishing pier. Six bedrooms, sleeps sixteen, and roughly two hundred steps to the beach by private boardwalk with no road to cross, which is the single best argument for it if you're travelling with small children. The beach wagon, chairs, umbrellas, towels and toys are all there, so the car doesn't have to carry them. The garage has been turned into a tiki bar with a ping pong table and giant Jenga, and it's where everyone ends up after dinner.
Out on the Fort Morgan peninsula, Above The Waves has two community pools, a clubhouse and tennis courts directly behind the house, and it takes dogs, two under fifty pounds. Four bedrooms, sleeps twelve, a two-minute walk to beach access, and a quieter stretch of sand than central Gulf Shores. The trade is the drive: the peninsula runs west along Highway 180 and you're fifteen to twenty minutes from the middle of Gulf Shores, so this is a stay for people who want to cook and swim rather than be in town twice a day. Those pools follow the same seasonal pattern, unheated, open eight to ten, warm enough well into autumn.
When you want the pool to be an attraction in itself
There's a version of this trip where the pool isn't for swimming laps, it's for occupying children from eleven until four. That's Phoenix Gulf Shores II #1003, a three-bedroom beachfront condo on the tenth floor that sleeps ten. The resort has a zero-entry outdoor pool, a lazy river, a water slide, a heated indoor pool and a large hot tub, plus a Gulf-front fitness centre. Zero-entry is the part parents care about: toddlers walk in rather than climb down a ladder.
It's also the only one of these where you can leave the car parked. Gulf State Park is a two-tenths-of-a-mile walk, The Hangout is about a mile, and the state park's fishing pier is just under a mile. The park's paved and boardwalk trail network runs for miles through pine scrub and along Lake Shelby, with the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail at its centre, and USA Today has named it the country's best recreational trail three years running. Parking at the resort is by pass from the front desk and a three-bedroom reservation is guaranteed two of them, so plan on arriving in two cars at most.
Also in this category: Penthouse #1401 at Crystal Shores West, a four-bedroom corner penthouse sleeping fourteen with a heated indoor/outdoor swim-through pool, hot tub, sauna and fitness centre, and a wraparound balcony with a water view from every bedroom. The swim-through is genuinely useful in January, when the Gulf is out of the question and an outdoor-only pool is decorative.
If there are ten of you
Ten is the number where the choice gets interesting, because four very different homes hit it and they point at four different weeks.
Sweet Caroline's if you're one family with children and want to be fifty steps from the sand with a lagoon-front pool and a fishing pier a short walk away. Fewest bedrooms, most bunks.
Phoenix Gulf Shores II #1003 if you want the lazy river and the slide, a walkable location near Gulf State Park, and three ensuite bedrooms rather than bunk space.
Above The Waves if the dog is coming and quiet beach beats convenience. Four bedrooms, sleeps twelve, so ten fits with room spare.
SeaHaven if ten might become fourteen. Six bedrooms, sixteen beds' worth of capacity, and the game garage absorbs teenagers.
And if you're well past ten: Beachin' Ya'll! sleeps twenty-six in West Beach with a full game room of air hockey, foosball and arcade cabinets, and doubled-up ovens, dishwashers, microwaves and fridges. It doesn't have a pool of its own, which is the honest caveat: it's the house for a reunion where the Gulf is the water you're swimming in.
Two things to settle before you book
Pool heating is not a given, and it's the detail that ruins the most winter trips. At Sea Glass the gas heater runs on request with notice before check-in and a daily charge. At Believe Inn and the Beach Club cottages the private pools are described as heated. The community pools at Little Lagoon Cottages and behind Above The Waves are not heated, and stay swimmable into the autumn rather than through it. If you're coming between November and February, ask us which pools will actually be warm on your dates before you choose the house.
The second is simpler: hours and access. Community and resort pools run on the neighbourhood's schedule, not yours, and resort amenity access at a condo comes with the building's rules on parking and passes. We'd rather tell you that in a text than have you find it at four in the afternoon on arrival day.
Ask us, we run these houses
We manage over 80 homes in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, so whatever shape your group is, something fits it. Our local Ball BNB team are the people who answer, not a call center, and we're the ones who know which pool caught the afternoon sun last week. Book direct and you'll pay less than you would through the big platforms.
Tell us your dates, your headcount and whether you want a pool to yourself or a lazy river to float down. We'll come back with two or three houses and the reasons for each.
